Online consultation of Climate Change Mitigation Strategy begins

Communities, Land and Environment
Online public consultation of Prince Edward Island’s Climate Change Mitigation Strategy begins today, said Minister of Communities, Land and Environment Robert Mitchell.

“The Government of Prince Edward Island has committed to play our part in the national efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” said Minister Mitchell. “A climate change mitigation strategy for our province will explore avenues of how we can be the most effective in regards to those emission reductions and what needs to be done to achieve these goals.”

Islanders are now invited to provide their input on what a Climate Change Mitigation Strategy should look like for Prince Edward Island. An introduction to the topic is now available online with questions to be considered when providing feedback. This strategy will tie in aspects of the Energy Strategy but will be a broader consideration of various aspects of climate change.

Online consultation will run throughout July with a draft strategy being released for public review and input later this summer. The draft strategy will go out to the public for consultation through public meetings beginning in September.

A separate Climate Change Adaptation Strategy will also be developed in the near future to take into consideration how, as Islanders, we need to address impacts of climate change.

Islanders are encouraged to visit the Department of Communities, Land and Environment website to review the introductory document and provide feedback on the 2016 P.E.I. Climate Change Mitigation Strategy. The website page can be viewed at: https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/service/climate-change-mitigation-strategy-public-consultation
