Next week, approximately 160 individuals from 34 countries around the world will take their Oath of Citizenship and be sworn in as new Canadians during upcoming citizenship ceremonies.
As a special congratulatory memento, the Government of Prince Edward Island, through the Department of Workforce and Advanced Learning will present each new citizen with a tree sapling. The young tree memento represents hope for each new Islander and the wish that these new citizens will plant their roots in their new home here in Prince Edward Island.
“It is an honour to welcome these new citizens to Canada and to Prince Edward Island,” says Minister Richard Brown, Workforce and Advanced Learning. “We hope that these tree saplings will be planted by all as a symbol of hope and structure for our new Islanders. Congratulations to all of our soon-to-be new citizens who will be sworn in at upcoming ceremonies.”
In honour of the upcoming ceremonies, Minister Brown invited a newcomer couple to plant a tree outside of the Jones building in Charlottetown. Masoud Fahandezhsaadi and Forough Saadat, originally from Iran, received their Canadian citizenship in 2015 and joined Brown, Minister Allen Roach, Minister Alan McIsaac, and MP Sean Casey for the tree planting.
