Island company Aspin Kemp and Associates will work with Grintex India Limited on training programs to boost Prince Edward Island’s advanced marine technology sector.
“This is the latest business partnership to directly result from the trade mission to India led by the Premier earlier this year,” Economic Development and Tourism Minister Heath MacDonald said. “Aspin Kemp is well known as a leader in training and documentation in the marine industry, and this agreement will expand AKA’s footprint in India and help further this government’s commitment to enhance our exports and grow our economy.”
The two companies recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop a joint venture company that will be located in the LaunchPad PEI space on Main Street in Montague. It will enhance information technology (IT) capabilities for both companies by establishing a center of excellence for Industrial IT training.
The joint venture will also address any supply-chain gaps that exist between Indian and Canadian national ship procurement programs, helping to provide services that may have been outsourced to other countries.
“Aspin Kemp is excited to have established this relationship with Grintex, a vessel design company whose portfolio is very complementary with our solution-based industrial portfolio,” said Aspin Kemp CEO Jason Aspin. “Together we feel we can open many business opportunities in India and Canada that would otherwise have been inaccessible to us separately.”
Besides Aspin Kemp and Associates, representatives from Coles Associates Portsmouth Atlantic, and UPEI joined Premier Wade MacLauchlan and Minister MacDonald on the Prince Edward Island-Ontario joint mission to India January 31 to February 6. They made contacts with Indian companies and institutions that either resulted in MOUs or continuing discussions in the areas of renewable energy, sustainable development, food products, and post-secondary education.
