Tim Young, Windows 7 Software Specialist with Information Technology Shared Services of the provincial government, dubbed an exceptional team leader, has been awarded the Stephen Dennis Memorial Award of Excellence for the 2014–15 programming year, says Minister Richard Brown, Workforce and Advanced Learning.
“In 2014–15, Tim was employed through the Supporting Youth in Careers (SYnC) program as Coordinator of the IT Garage Program. He is considered a great team leader who takes pride in his work,” said Minister Brown. “His friendly and professional demeanour left a strong impression on those around him, and he never failed to put in the extra time and energy to ensure things were running smoothly, and that his team felt supported.”
Young has worked for the Government of Prince Edward Island in ITSS since November, 2015. The Stephen Dennis Memorial Award of Excellence is granted each year to recognize outstanding dedication in providing public access service to Island communities.
“I am surprised and very grateful to have received this award. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the IT Garage,” said Young upon learning he was this year’s award recipient.
“Dad was strongly committed to educating young people and firmly believed in the power of technology as a tool to that end,” said Joel Dennis, on behalf of the Dennis family. “We are pleased to see the award go to such a worthy recipient. Congratulations to Tim on this achievement.”
The Stephen Dennis Memorial Award for Excellence is in memory of Stephen Dennis, a former CAP Coordinator for the Tremploy location in Charlottetown. Dennis was a great supporter of CAP and youth employment programs, and was always willing to help out in any way possible. He was very dedicated and contributed to their success for many years until his passing. The memorial award is presented to an exceptional participant and youth employed through the SYnC program.
The SYnC program is a youth employment joint initiative between the Province and the Federal Government that provides youth interns the opportunity to work with local nonprofits; industry associations; businesses; and community centres to develop skills in small business, entrepreneurship, and career awareness. Each year, approximately 50-70 youth interns are provided with this opportunity.
