Traffic Advisory – Prince Edward Island Marathon
Motorists are reminded that the annual Prince Edward Island Marathon will take place Sunday October 16. This event involves a full 42 kilometre marathon, along with associated short-distance events in Queens County and in the City of Charlottetown.
Race events take place from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. During this period, drivers should be alert for runners and walkers, as well as volunteers and workers assisting with this event.

Construction advisory – York Bridge (Route 25)
Beginning the week of October 17, 2016, traffic on Route 25 in York will use temporary roads as crews replace the York Bridge.
• Signage will be in place to guide traffic around the construction.
• Drivers should allow for additional time to go through the Pleasant Grove Road / Hardy Mill Road / York Road intersection. Travelers to and from Charlottetown may wish to use alternate routes such as Union Road, Guernsey Road, and Brackley Point Road to the west and Suffolk Road (Route 222) to the east.
The new bridge is expected to open in early December.
Construction advisory – Stanley Bridge roundabout
From October 17 to 21, crews will be active at the intersection of Route 6 and Route 254 as mountable curb is installed around the centre island of the Stanley Bridge roundabout.
During the construction period:
• it will not be possible for the rear wheels of trailers to travel across the centre island;
• longer vehicles will have to exercise caution when using the roundabout; and
• drivers hauling trailers may wish to consider alternate routes during this period.
Once the project is complete the Stanley Bridge roundabout can be used as designed, with the rear wheels of trucks and trailers able to travel across the centre island.
Traffic Advisory – Maypoint Road and Trans Canada Highway
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, October 7, 2016 -- The traffic signals will be removed today from the intersection of Maypoint Road, Upton Road and the Trans-Canada Highway in Charlottetown.
The lights are being removed to enable construction of a roundabout as part of Phase 1 of the Cornwall Perimeter Highway.
Motorists traveling through the construction area are asked to watch for traffic flaggers on duty and to pay attention to temporary signage and lane markings.
Traffic Advisory – Line Road
Line Road (Route 269) in North Rustico will be closed part of the day October 7 for highway maintenance crews to replace a cross culvert.
Work will take place approximately 100 metres from Route 6.
The road is expected to reopen in late afternoon.Traffic Advisory – Route 213 – Monaghan Road
There will be a temporary road closure on Route 213 Monaghan Road in Auburn from October 4 to 5, 2016.
Use of this road will be interrupted while crews replace a crosspipe, approximately 350 metres from the Byis Lane intersection.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes while this work is underway.
Detour signage will be in place.
Traffic Advisory – Replacement – York Bridge – Route 25
Motorists are advised to expect minor delays starting October 3 as work begins to replace the York Bridge on Route 25.
A two lane temporary bypass road will be constructed in order to direct traffic around the bridge site. There will be no detours during construction.
Motorists can expect minor delays due to reduced speed limits leading to and within the construction zone, as well as the periodic presence of traffic control personnel to assist with safe movement of vehicles.
Motorists are advised to allow for additional time to go through the Pleasant Grove Rd / Harding Mill Rd / York Rd intersection, as each will have a stop sign prior to the intersection.
The project is expected to last for 12 weeks with construction of the temporary bypass road occupying the first several weeks.
The new bridge is expected to open to traffic in early December.
During the construction period, signage will be in place to guide traffic around the construction site.
Traffic Advisory – Culvert Replacement – Frenchfort Road - Route 260
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, September 28, 2016 -- Beginning Thursday, September 29, traffic flow on Frenchfort Road – Route 260 - will be interrupted as crews work to replace a culvert.
Construction is expected to continue for two days.
Detour signage will be in place during construction.
Expect delays during Maypoint and Poplar Island roundabout construction
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, September 15, 2016 -- Motorists are reminded to expect traffic delays during construction of roundabouts on the Trans-Canada Highway at Maypoint Road and Poplar Island.
Traffic flow will continue on this route throughout the construction project, although traffic will be narrowed to one lane in either direction throughout daylight hours.
The most substantial delays will be during commuter traffic at the beginning and end of the work day.
Construction in this area is slated to be complete in December 2016.
The following two projects will be starting on Tuesday, September 6.
Route 1 in Mount Mellick
Construction on Route 1, Trans Canada Highway, to re-align Route 272 Village Green Rd and Route 26 Pownal Road, commences 150 metres North of the intersection of Route 1 and the Waterside Road and proceeds east along Route 1 for a distance of 1,230 metres.
Two-way, one lane traffic will be maintained, minor delays can be expected.
Route 4 in Cardigan/Roseneath
Construction to resurface and widen Route 4 in Cardigan and Roseneath, commences 200 metres North of the Pooles Corner Roundabout and proceeds northerly for a distance of 5,300 metres along Route 4.
Two-way, one lane traffic will be maintained, minor delays can be expected.
The following project will be starting on Wednesday, September 7.
Route 15 in Harrington/Brackley Beach
Construction to resurface Route 15 in Harrington and Brackley Beach, commences at the intersection of Route 15 Brackley Point Road and Route 250 Kilkenny Road and proceeds North along Route 15 for a distance of 2,570 meters.
Two-way, one lane traffic will be maintained, minor delays can be expected.
Traffic Advisory - Union/Elmsdale
Road widening in Union/Elmsdale along Route 150 will begin Tuesday, September 6. One way traffic will be maintained during construction hours.
The project commences 2,300 metres west of the intersection at Route 12 and Route 150 and proceeds west for distance of 2,460 metres.
Delays are to be expected. Work will continue through to Friday, September 23.
Cornwall Perimeter Highway, Phase 1
Work will begin on the first phase of the Cornwall Perimeter Highway project Tuesday, September 6, 2016.
Roundabouts will be constructed at the Maypoint and Poplar Island intersections. Temporary routes will be used to navigate the Maypoint intersection.
Two way traffic will be maintained through the Poplar Island intersection. Expect delays. Work should be complete by mid to late November.
Traffic Advisory – Permanent Closure – Bay Road Bridge - Inverness
Effective immediately, the Bay Road Bridge on Bay Road in Inverness is closed to all traffic due to its inability to safely support traffic.
Closure will continue into foreseeable future.
Barricades and signage are being installed to advise the motoring public of this closure.
Traffic Advisory – Replacement – York Bridge – Route 25
Work to replace the York Bridge on Route 25 will begin September 6.
The bridge is expected to reopen to traffic October 14.
During the construction period, detour signs will be in place to guide traffic around the construction area.
Traffic Advisory – Construction – Kelly’s Cross Structure Replacement
The Kelly's Cross Structure Replacement project on Rte 13 in Kelly's Cross is scheduled to begin on September 6 and should be opened to traffic on or before October 21.
During the construction period, traffic will be detoured around the project using Route 13, Route 225 and Route 246.

Traffic Advisory – Covehead Bridge – PEI National Park
Beginning in early September, the Covehead Bridge and pedestrian sidewalks on Gulf Shore Parkway in Prince Edward Island National Park will be completely closed for a few weeks to allow for water-proofing and paving of the driving lanes.
There will be a detour in place during that time.
The detour is expected to be in place from September 7 to 28.
Traffic will be routed along Route 15 and Route 6 during the period of construction.
Georgetown Road - Stratford
The Town of Stratford will begin work on Friday, August 12th on the Georgetown Road in Stratford to widen the road, and to install storm sewer and sidewalk.
The project begins south of the intersection of Georgetown Road and Laura Lane and proceeds south for approximately 800 metres.
Two way, one lane traffic will be maintained during construction hours.
Delays are to be expected.
Road Closure – Grimley Road, Bangor
Grimley Road in Bangor will be closed to traffic between 9 am and 4 pm for the next week, while crews install utility poles along the road.
During construction, there will be flaggers deployed at each end of the road in order to allow farmers to access adjacent fields.
There are no dwellings on the road.
Route 2 - Marshfield
Construction on Route 2, commences Monday August 8 in Marshfield, beginning 500 metres west of the intersection of Route 2 (St.Peters Road) and Route 222 (Suffolk Road) and proceeds west along Route 2 for a distance of 1,360 metres.
Two-way, one-lane traffic will be maintained, minor delays can be expected.
Construction is expected to run for 4 weeks.
Route 2 - New Annan Right Turn Lane
Work will begin on Route 2 - New Annan Right Turn Lane, Monday, August 8, 2016.
A right turn lane will be constructed on Route 2 to access MacIntyre Road.
Two-way traffic will be maintained. Delays can be expected.
Work should be complete by August 19, 2016.
Route 10 - North Carleton/Searletown
Road resurfacing will begin this week on Route 10, causing likely traffic delays.
The project begins south of the intersection of Route 10 and Route 112 - Searletown Road and proceeds south for approximately 2.4 km. One way traffic will be maintained during construction hours.
Work will begin Monday July 25 and continue through to Friday, August 5.
Route 6 - Stanley Bridge/New London
Road widening and resurfacing will begin on Route 6 - Stanley Bridge/New London. The project begins east of the intersection at Route 6 and Grahams Road and proceeds east for approximately 3.5 km. One way traffic will be maintained during construction hours. Delays are to be expected. Work will begin Wednesday, July 20 and continue through to Friday, August 17.
Route 2 - Charlottetown/Milton Station
Road resurfacing Work will begin Wednesday, July 13 on Route 2 - Charlottetown/Milton Station. The project begins east of the intersection of Route 2 and Stockman Drive and proceeds west for approximately 1.8 km.
One way traffic will be maintained during construction hours. Delays are to be expected. Work will continue through to Friday, July 22.
Bridge replacement – Cascumpec Bridge – Route 12 - Cascumpec
The Cascumpec Bridge on Route 12 in Cascumpec will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, July 11, and continuing throughout the construction period of a new Cascumpec Bridge.
During the period of construction, traffic in this area will be rerouted around the Mill River estuary using Cascumpec Road (Route 12), Mill River East Road (Route 145), Mill Road (Route 136) and Route 2.
Removal of the existing bridge and construction of a new Cascumpec Bridge are expected to take 16 weeks.
Warning signs and detour arrows will be in place throughout the construction period.
Route 133 - Mount Pleasant/Ellerslie-Bideford
Road resurfacing on Route 133 - Mount Pleasant/Ellerslie-Bideford will create traffic delays for the next two weeks.
The project begins at the intersection of Route 2 and Route 133 and proceeds north for approximately 2.2 km. One way traffic will be maintained during construction hours, but delays are to be expected.
Work will begin Monday, July 11 and continue through to Friday, July 22.
Anticipated Road Closure – Alberton Storm Sewer Construction
Installation of a storm sewer system in Alberton has begun with work starting off of Kings Lane in the vicinity of the town lagoon. An increase of truck traffic on Main Street can be expected and motorists should be aware of turning truck traffic onto Kings Lane for the next 4-6 weeks.
Road work on Poplar Street and Argyle Street in Alberton will begin in approximately 4 weeks time. As work progresses each road will experience a road closure for 1-2 days. These closures will not occur at the same time.
Work on this project is expected to continue through to late July.
