A new energy strategy for Prince Edward island will be developed through a wide range of perspectives from individuals and businesses, says Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Paula Biggar.
“”We are looking forward developing an energy strategy that will guide policies and decisions now and in the future that will benefit all Islanders,” said Minister Biggar. “It is vital that we hear from residents and business that rely on a sustainable and affordable energy supply.”
The Prince Edward Island Energy Corporation is working with companies Dunsky Energy Consulting in partnership with Power Advisory to develop the strategy. The report is expected to be completed by the end of June.
The strategy will be comprehensive, with a focus on sustainability, including approaches to energy efficiency and conservation, renewable energy alternatives and of economic benefit to the province. It will be integrated with the provincial climate change strategy.
As part of the process, submissions are being invited from the public. Submissions can be made online, by e-mail, by mail or fax. Public meetings are being scheduled to be held across Prince Edward Island in May. More information is available at www.peiec.ca.
“Rising energy costs impact all Islanders, businesses and institutions and new measures must be put in place to secure the Island’s energy future,” said Minister Biggar. “I strongly encourage all Islanders who have a stake in this issue to come forward with their ideas and suggestions.”
