The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-food Canada and Member of Parliament for Cardigan, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister Responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and the Honourable Heath MacDonald, PEI Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, today announced total repayable government funding of $925,000 for the companies.
PEI Mussel King has developed “Mussels in Minutes!” - pre-packaged mussels in a microwavable pouch with seasonings inside, producing a ready-to-eat product in three minutes. ACOA’s Business Development Program is providing $350,000 and PEI Century Fund $325,000 to enable the company to start full-scale production of the product. In addition, PEI Mussel Farms is purchasing automated mussel sock fillers to increase productivity and increase production to meet market demand, with $125,000 each from ACOA and PEI Century Fund.
