The City of Summerside is making infrastructure upgrades to an underutilized multi-tenant facility to attract new private sector business investment and new employment opportunities to the downtown core. The existing facility at 54 Central Street will be re-purposed from its previous retail space into office space. The business space will be leased by the City of Summerside.
Bobby Morrissey, Member of Parliament for Egmont, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), the Honourable Heath MacDonald, PEI Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, and His Worship, Mayor Bill Martin, Mayor of the City of Summerside, today announced funding for the project.
The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund, is providing a non-repayable contribution of $990,000 to this project. The Government of Prince Edward Island – through Innovation PEI – is supporting the expansion of building tenant IO Solutions to the City of Summerside with a labour rebate of up to 100 positions. As the company achieves its hiring projections, the company is eligible to claim up to $810,359 in support.
Innovation PEI also will provide $28,000 to the City of Summerside for architectural and design costs for the retrofit.
