Prince Edward Island Government marks International Women’s Day

Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy
International Women’s Day is a day dedicated to celebration and reflection, says Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Paula Biggar, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women.

“Canada's theme for International Women’s Day in 2016 is Women’s Empowerment Leads to Equality,” said the Minister. “On Prince Edward Island, we have made great strides, but there is still more do.”

Minister Biggar urged governments, businesses and organizations to examine themselves and their performance in terms of gender parity.

“Our government is committed to getting Islanders of all backgrounds involved in leadership. I would urge Island women to visit the Engage PEI website to see the many available vacancies on our agencies, boards and commissions,” said the minister.

“I would also urge Island women to seize the opportunities to take on leadership roles in our community.”

Engage PEI offers Islanders an opportunity to become involved in one of the nearly 70 government agencies, boards and commissions. All Islanders are encouraged to consider ways in which they can contribute to the public life of our province. Upcoming vacancies include the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, Employment Standards Board and the PEI Marketing Council.
