Triple P website proves to be popular

Education, Early Learning and Culture
Thousands of Islanders visited the Triple P- positive parenting program website in its first three months of operation in Prince Edward Island.

"All parents can use a little help once in a while ", said Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Doug Currie. “More and more people are going to the internet for information and support to help with the daily challenges of life. The Triple P website is proving helpful to parents who are able to access information and advice in their home, at a time that is convenient to them.”

Triple P offers everything from tips to deal with common problems like toddler tantrums or teenaged rebellion to individual or group sessions for people dealing with more challenging behavioural issues.

The program launched in Prince Edward Island in September of 2015 and the PEI-specific parent web site went live September 24th. In October alone there were more than 5,000 visitors to the page.

Aside from using the site to find positive parenting tips and advice, many Island parents and caregivers have chosen to use the webpage to find seminars, individual or group sessions that fit their schedules and parenting needs, or to access the Triple P Online eight session parenting program.

The provincial government's four social policy departments, together, are spending $600,000 over five years on Triple P’s implementation and the program is available to all Islanders at little or no cost.

48 Islanders who already work with children and families have been accredited to deliver the program; which works with parents to strengthen their skills and help them navigate the range of typical challenges of parenting children up to age 16. Training sessions for new practitioners are planned for this spring.

The Triple P Positive Parenting program is just one part of government's commitment to supporting wellness and the healthy development of children. For more information please visit, www.triplep-parenting.net.
