Prince Edward Island saw the highest growth in average weekly earnings in the past year for all provinces, says Workforce and Advanced Learning Minister Richard Brown.

This week, Statistics Canada released its Survey of Employment, Payroll and Hours (SEPH) for the month of October, which included national and provincial data on employment levels, wages, and hours. Each month, Statistics Canada releases SEPH data including unadjusted and seasonally adjusted data related to employment, wages, and hours worked.

According to the survey, year over year, Prince Edward Island employment levels for non-farm employees have grown 1.4 per cent to 63,461. This represents the strongest growth in Atlantic Canada for this period. Wages for non-farm employees also grew 3.6 per cent over the past year which is the strongest wage growth in Canada for this period.

“We are very encouraged by these results and commend Island employers and employees for their contributions to the workforce,” said Minister Brown. “There are job opportunities available on PEI and we must work together to grow our skilled workforce and ensure Islanders seeking employment are successful and lead fulfilling lives.”

SkillsPEI continues to work with Island employers and individuals seeking work to obtain the required skills to pursue their career of choice and work their way out of unemployment or underemployment. To learn more about SkillsPEI programs visit www.skillspei.com.
