This year, Citizenship Week is held October 12-18, with several ceremonies taking place to swear in new Canadians. Prince Edward Island is pleased to welcome over 140 new citizens to the province.
“As Premier of Prince Edward Island, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our newest Canadian citizens,” said Premier Wade MacLauchlan. “Today marks an important day in their journeys, and we are pleased that they have decided to make Prince Edward Island their new home.”
“Citizenship is the culmination of a long and sometimes difficult, but rewarding process of moving and integrating into a new country and community,” said Workforce and Advanced Learning Minister Richard Brown. “As we welcome these new Canadians, we thank them for choosing to make a public declaration of their commitment to Canada and to Prince Edward Island. We also thank the many organizations who add to this success by offering continuous support throughout the newcomer transition process and beyond.”
Citizenship and Immigration Canada will host several Citizen Week ceremonies this week in Prince Edward Island to welcome and congratulate our country’s newest citizens, with the Office of Immigration Settlement and Population hosting one of the ceremonies.
These ceremonies mark the end of a long journey and process of committing to Canada. Our new citizens making this choice are a tribute to the successful efforts the Province has made in promoting PEI as a destination for economic migrants from around the world. It is also recognition of the welcoming nature of our Island that so many have decided to make PEI and Canada their home.
Each year, Prince Edward Island welcomes over 1,000 newcomers to our province, through settling and integrating into our communities, they are helping to grow our population to meet economic needs and provide skill sets for our labour market. Many of these newcomers choose to make our Island their permanent home.
The Government of Prince Edward Island sends warm wishes and congratulations to our country’s newest citizens on this important milestone.
