Visitors are invited to celebrate a milestone at Green Park Shipbuilding Museum and historic Yeo House, one of the seven provincial museum sites, says Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Hal Perry.
“This year marks the 150th anniversary of the historic Yeo House and I encourage all Islanders to visit Green Park this season to take a walk through James Yeo Jr.’s restored Victorian home,” said Minister Perry. “The Green Park Shipbuilding Museum and historic Yeo House represents a golden age when the shipyards drove the economy of our province.”
During the 19th century, shipbuilding was a major industry in Prince Edward Island. Located on the site of an historical shipyard, the Green Park Shipbuilding Museum and Yeo House have been open to the public since 1973. The site includes an interpretive centre and the Port Hill school house.
The Yeo House 150th Anniversary Tea will take place on August 26th from 12:30-2:30pm. Costumed guides will lead tours and visitors are encouraged to dress up in Victorian costumes. There will be tea, scones and sweets, along with entertainment and games.
“This important historical site gives us a glimpse of how the shipbuilding industry helped shape our provincial identity,” said Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Paula Biggar. “The historic Yeo house received a fresh coat of paint this summer, and we are excited to invite Islanders and visitors alike back to Green Park for a visit.”
