Over 50 pieces of Island fine crafts are on display at the Eptek Art & Culture Centre in Summerside, one of the seven provincial museum sites, says Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Hal Perry.
“There are some very striking pieces on display, from jewelry to furniture and large hangings,” said Minister Perry. “I encourage all Islanders to plan a visit to take in the rich variety of Island crafts assembled in this colourful exhibit.”
Eptek Centre partnered with the PEI Crafts Council to mount the Celebration of Crafts 2015 and the exhibit will be in place until October 9. Craft and art demonstrations will take place throughout the month of August. Craft and art by local artists is available for purchase at the gift shop.
“This Celebration of Crafts brings some of the finest Island handcraft to the gallery at Eptek Centre,” said Eptek Art & Culture Centre Site Director Paula Kenny. “Prince Edward Island has a wealth of talented artisans and we are so pleased to host the work of these impressive craftspeople.”
Eptek Art & Culture Centre offers regional and Prince Edward Island exhibits year round. Showcases include themes ranging from history to art, including periodic displays of the permanent collection of paintings by the late PEI artist, Dr. Georgie Read Barton.
“Craft is an important element of the Island culture that draws visitors to our province,” said Economic Development and Tourism Minister Heath MacDonald. “This exhibition, developed in partnership with the PEI Crafts Council with the support of Innovation PEI, is a great way to recognize our Island tradition of fine crafts and recognize the national Craft Year 2015.”
Eptek Art & Culture Centre is located at 130 Heather Moyse Drive on the Summerside waterfront. For more information on the seven museum sites, including hours of operation, visit www.peimuseum.com.
