Designated drivers can win free tickets to upcoming festivals

The Tyne Valley Oyster Festival is partnering with the PEI Liquor Control Commission on a contest to encourage the use of designated drivers at the oyster festival and at Rock the Boat Musicfest.

“Both festivals were a huge success last year and we wanted to look at how we could continue to grow them, especially Rock the Boat Musicfest,” said Tyne Valley Oyster Festival Chair Jeff Noye. “Promoting responsible drinking is a critical part of that growth strategy, so we thought we could encourage designated driving by offering a chance to win free tickets to those who take on that responsibility.”

The "Name Your Designated Driver" contest will be run on the Rock the Boat Musicfest Facebook page (www.facebook.com/rocktheboatfest).

“Public safety and social responsibility are vital components of the commission’s mandate,” said The Hon. Allen Roach, minister responsible for the PEI Liquor Control Commission. “Encouraging and supporting an initiative that keeps impaired drivers off our Island roads is a worthwhile endeavor.”

This is the 51st year for the Tyne Valley Oyster Festival, which runs July 29 to August 2. The second-annual Rock the Boat Musicfest is August 1 and will feature some of Canada’s top musical acts with The Irish Descendants, The Stanfields, Matt Anderson and The Mellatones, Amy and Rachel Beck, and headliners Tom Cochrane with Red Rider.

RCMP in Prince County are looking forward to yet another successful music event for the region and fully endorse the "Name Your Designated Driver" contest. Anything that can be done to increase enjoyment and lessen the risk of event participants and community members is to be applauded. Making plans well in advance of any event that you attend means that you know how you are travelling and it doesn't include risking your life or the life of others.
