Beach goers on Prince Edward Island can access information on current conditions at provincial park beaches and beach safety, by visiting the province’s beach report website, says Minister of Economic Development and Tourism Heath MacDonald.
“The beach reports website is a valuable resource for anyone that enjoys a day at the beach,” said Minister MacDonald. “The website offers up-to-date information on surf conditions, water and air temperature, hours of supervision and links to important information on beach safety, like what to do if you’re caught in a riptide.”
Surf lifeguards at supervised provincial park beaches update conditions on-line as needed. The first update is made each morning so beach goers have the best information possible before they head out for the day.
“It’s very important to offer this kind of information on-line and in real time,” said Minister MacDonald. “If beach goers are aware of the conditions at a certain location it may influence their decision on whether it’s a good day to go to the beach. This is part of our ongoing effort to provide Islanders and visitors alike with important beach safety information that can help protect them from possible hazards.”
The website is located at www.tourismpei.com/beachreports .
Surf lifeguards are on duty at Red Point Provincial Park, Northumberland Provincial Park, Cabot Provincial Park and Jacques Cartier Provincial Park until August 26, and at Basin Head Provincial Park, Panmure Island Provincial Park, Brudenell River Provincial Park (Outdoor Pool), Chelton Beach Provincial Park, Cedar Dunes Provincial Park and Mill River Fun Park until Labour Day, September 7.
