Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission is prepared to help ‘Change Cancer Forever’

The PEI Liquor Control Commission is ready to help ‘Change Cancer Forever’ as it partners with the Canadian Cancer Society for a third year as part of the Canadian Cancer Society’s annual daffodil pin campaign. During the entire month of April, daffodil pins will be available for purchase in all 18 PEI Liquor corporate retail outlets across the province.

The Canadian Cancer Society’s bright yellow lapel pin is a powerful symbol of strength and courage and provides an opportunity to show support for those living with the disease.

“Unfortunately, the fight against cancer continues for many Islanders”, noted Hon. Robert Henderson, minister responsible for the PEI Liquor Control Commission. “The Commission is proud to partner with the Canadian Cancer Society to support those impacted by the disease in our province.”

Daffodil pins are available for a $2 donation and tax receipts will be issued to those making donations of $10 or more.

“A cancer diagnosis impacts not only the individual but those close to the person,” says Jane Farquharson, Interim Executive Director, Canadian Cancer Society, PEI Division. “Wearing a daffodil pin throughout the month of April shows many Islanders that you care about what they are going through and you want to fight back against cancer.”

Approximately 900 Islanders will be diagnosed with cancer this year. P.E.I. has among the highest incidence rate of cancer among men in Canada, 13% higher than the national average, and the mortality rate among women with cancer is 12% higher than the national average.

Every donation made during the Canadian Cancer Society’s April Daffodil Campaign will bring us one step closer to preventing cancer, detecting it earlier, improving treatments and helping Islanders live longer, healthier lives.
