New Directors For World Potato Congress

World Potato Congress president, Lloyd Palmer of Canada announced today that two new international directors were appointed to the board of the World Potato Congress Inc.

Named were Dr. Hubert G. Zandstra, Director General of the International Potato Centre (CIP) in Lima, Peru, and A. "Bud" Middaugh, Executive Director of the U.S. National Potato Council of Englewood, Colorado.

Both individuals have been active on the International Advisory Committee since 1994 when the second congress was held in England. The first congress took place in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island in 1993, while the third event was staged in Durban, South Africa in 1997.

Plans are underway for the next congress to be held in Amsterdam, September 3 to September 6, 2000. "The Year of the Potato" in The Netherlands Congress 2000, will be held in conjunction with the International Potato Manifestation or Harvesting Demonstrations to be held in Emmeloord immediately following the congress.

The newly appointed directors join Palmer, Don Anderson and Eugene Rossiter all from Prince Edward Island, and Jim Godfrey of the UK. Mr. Rossiter is the legal counsel for the organization.

The congress organization also has nine international advisory members with all continents represented.
