International Women’s Day, March 8, is a time of reflection and celebration, says Minister of Community Services and Seniors Valerie E. Docherty.
“International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate how far we have come and take stock of what still needs to be done,” said Ms. Docherty. “I am very proud to have been part of the work that has been done to enhance the lives of women and girls on Prince Edward Island. I look forward to continuing the work with women’s organizations across our province in order to raise awareness and help find solutions to issues facing Island women.”
A good example of some of the work that has been done is last summer’s Bold Vision Conference. At that event, 23 visionary women came together in Brudenell to plot a future for our country with a unique female perspective. Those perspectives and ideas were collected in an anthology called A Bold Vision: Women Leaders Imagining Canada’s Future. To ensure all Islanders have access to these unique points of view, Minister Docherty will be donating, through the Interministerial Women’s Secretariat, copies of the anthology to public libraries across the Island.
“This anthology is an important legacy of the 2014 celebrations and an excellent collection of ideas for the future of our country,” said Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson. “The Public Library Service is honoured to receive this donation. I am confident it will benefit library users for years to come.”
Copies of the anthology, A Bold Vision: Women Leaders Imagining Canada’s Future, can be reserved on the public library service site at http://www.library.pe.ca/.
